Mordor probably has the highest win rate in 2v2 next to Rohan, but still can be unforgiving if you do not manage your eco properly. This means our build order has to be very strict and operate on a tight budget at the start, a pro Mordor always has 0 money because they don’t cash float! Be smart with eco; meaning not going for early harad palace or 2nd pit if we lost our mills, not building early towers, and being very greedy (don’t make tower until you fill your base if you scout well).
Scavenger: Take this over Industry if you have a mordor mirror (more of a Wold thing!)
Middle: One of the biggest mistakes I see people make on Anorien is buying middle. There are very specific times and mus to buy middle, maybe I should have done a whole section just for this. Normally we don’t care if the other team buys middle when we are Mordor because it means they aren’t building an army to kill us and we need time anyways, except Roh/Isen which I’ll bring up later. Mordor wants middle in Fol+Mordor mirrors (enemy cannot destroy it easily), and against 2 fol (same reason). Mordor can buy mid vs 2 fod, but its risky and requires you to lame (2 siegeworks or mumas which are very bingo either you get lucky and they trample everything or they just suck). Mordor does not buy middle vs Isen/Roh because they will just destroy it (fast upgrades+ theo)…but Rohan Isen can be Mordor’s biggest nightmare because Rohan middle with isen combos are almost impossible to beat as Mordor. Make like 1-3 trolls, and sometimes you are ahead enough to buy mid and defend it, but its risky. It’s better to kinda hover around middle with trolls and your ally horses and if they buy it, go crazy and destroy it before wells and statues go up. This is a mess, will fix some other time. Just don’t buy mid if you don’t know what youre doing unless it’s a Mordor+FoL mirror, then buy it. Countering middle: If you’re in a mor+fol mirror and other team bought middle, GG. Jk, go for fast naz/wk and kill the middle with your ally, or go for drummer and orc combos. If roh isen, hopefully you have many trolls and drum, I will usually commit before statues and wells are up in a all or nothing attack.
Gollum:
After buying the 3rd mill Gollum can either intercept incoming infantry and help defend or go kill laborers at the enemy mills. This is a personal preference thing and depends on whether you have an aggressive or conservative playstyle. Gollum can also hide in the base and kill buildings by pressing G and making sure he is guarding in between 2 empty build spots. (If you put him on the build spot the building will just push him to the side). He is also your tool to kill hobbits as they can be hard to catch and be able to cloak at your mill. A good tip is that hobbits cannot usually cloak if 1 orc + laborers/Gollum is chasing him. After the early game, keep using Gollum to scout incoming horse rushes so you know when to make towers. As Mordor you never want to make a tower unless you absolutely need to since your priority is to fill up your base as fast as possible.
Laborers:
These are very underrated and can be used in many creative ways. Their most important use is to scout but can be used for example to lure the troll at the bottom of Anorien to incoming infantry (credits Felixanius “Gubsi”). My tactic is to use them to buy time after your mill dies, by luring the infantry away from the spot with 1 laborers and the others cover the spot and rebuy+cancel to waste their time. I’m very proud of this trick
but it requires a lot of micro and you can accidentally cash float while doing it. It’s mostly an Isen thing since you have no units to watch while you wait for Lurtz lol.
When it comes to eco, 3 extra laborers at each mill provide the most money, but don’t do this too early as it costs too much. You want to make sure you get your first SH at least before you make an extra laborers, and even then just start with like 1-2 at each mill (Basically don’t go overboard spending money on labs at the start).
The big questions: Naz or Wk? Devastation or wait for Darkness? I’m sure many of you have thought this in 1v1 or on Wold.
This is a hard concept to teach because sometimes you need to go for Naz instead of WK because you might die waiting for WK, or need devastation because you are poor. On the other hand, I’ve bought Naz or taken devastation while ahead to press my advantage and snowball the game further. Or, being poor but realizing that going for Naz or Deva is just prolonging the loss and gambling for the early dark/WK ‘win-out’ is the correct play. Long story short is that its complicated and I cannot really help you here as it is a ‘vibe’ thing. This paragraph was useless sorry.
More Wold questions: Rhun or trolls? Neither? Ok this time I make it simple for you and make a cheat sheet.
What enemy army is next to me?
Mordor/isen? 2-3 pits->Naz/Wk
Gondor? Trolls (Harad rhun outposts countered by Boro)
Rohan? Harad>Rhuns>Outpost>WK or trolls (Rohan does not have good answer for rhuns and isn’t as good at rushing bases as Gondor is)
Small QM maps: This is a map where I don’t get 3 mills spoonfed to me (Haliferien, east emnet, etc.) You can start pit+sh or furn for safer eco.
Mordor + FoL
Early Game
With every mu, start orc pit and send Gollum to the back mill and 2 orcs to the front mill and buy them. With fol ally, you will get 3 mills. Send your both orcs forward towards the enemy. If there is fod on your side, you can go straight for their mill and kill it. If there are infantry coming towards you, attack them but if they get chant/eye from their ally do not fight them, just buy time and wait for the power to go away. It is ok to lose a mill, do not panic and make sure to delete the mill in time so you do not feed rank 2 to the infantry. Your ally hopefully has a hobbit cloaked so you can reclaim the mill. Give eye to your ally when he asks, but if he is taking too long just use eye for yourself or on him so it comes back fast.
Some people like to make a early tower, I am not a fan and prefer to be greedy and buy eco buildings first. Just be careful of buying it too fast as Isen+fol will see it and go inside the castle to kill it. I know I said to buy eco ASAP but this specific situation is kinda tricky (I wait to see where the uruk is going first). Even if they do go inside, it means your back mills are not being targeted so you will be okay. As soon as they first attack on your mills is over, get 2-3 orcs and creep ASAP to keep filling up your base. If I am against Gondor I like to send my first orcs to his farms instead of defending and just trade, it will delay his horse and I can recover my side faster than he can.
Mid Game
Mid game is usually just buying trolls, but I’ll talk about the times when you do not.
If you are in a Fol+Mor mirror, you will both be fighting to get middle, so you will just go all SH in the base. If you get middle, fill it up with furns and either rush WK or go for cage in your base, you will need to scout the enemy Mordor to see how they’re reacting (are they naz/wk rushing? Did they go for cage?) to do the right strat. If they go for cage, you can WK rush only if you are very ahead. With heal your WK can destroy orc combos with ease, but trolls is the safe strat. (you will have money for wk anyways)
If you failed to get middle, GG! Immediately delete the sh in the back of your base and go for trolls, try to pump some combos or something and attack middle or go for your own WK. It will be hard whatever you decide to do, but maybe your ally can attack the middle and buy you some time. Yeah, fol Mordor mirrors suck nobody likes them.
If you are against Gon+Roh, there is an alternative strategy besides going trolls. Trolls can be easily countered by Gon+Roh by RA with fire, so you can fill up your base and go for harads instead. Can go palace earlier if all 3 mills survived. Use the harads to defend your mills and creep (eomer will probably rape them but sometimes hes busy chasing horses), and then start spamming Rhuns everywhere. If you’re lucky you can buy middle and with Rhuns you can defend it and try to get WK out. If your middle is somehow alive and WK comes out, it should be gg and you can start making mumas+catas (my fav), or get some trolls out. Your ally’s job is to defend your mills and middle and distract double FoL however he can. This mu can be pretty hard sometimes but also really easy if you make it to late game with drummer+his combos.
If you are against double FoD, you can also take middle. But this means you have nothing to defend against isen combos with drummer coming to middle. This means you have to make catas and/or mumakil in the middle and hope your ally can do some miracle land trample. You can also rush naz or WK and help your ally rush the bases. Your eco should be fantastic since mor/isen cant really pressure your mills unless they go wargs.
If you are against fol+isen, you go the ‘vanilla’ strat and just make trolls. Make 4 trolls, 2 drums, maybe a few more trolls if they are strong then go for WK. If you guys are ahead, you can just break the wall and go in with your FoL ally. If you cannot, late game begins. Use drummer ability to fear isen combos as you go in with land and eye.
Many times your FoL ally will have lego elves or combos and you just support them, but other times you are the carry and keep your 3 mills the entire game. I would try to give Rohan all the farms once I get my WK and trolls out.
Late game
A pretty fun time to be Mordor. You have WK and mass trolls, and maybe some catas. If you haven’t won by now, it means rain is involved or Gon Roh have a big mobile army. This is the stage which makes or breaks most Mordors (especially me) because it requires patience. You cannot make any mistakes, and trying to end the game in the enemy castle can be a huge throw even if only 1 building is left (im exaggerating but not by much). This is because trolls are expensive and take a lot of time to replace and losing high ranked ones suck, and WK takes forever to come back. So, never try to attack the enemy castle unless you know you can finish the game. This sounds like an obvious thing but really think about it. If you have even a little doubt whether you have enough trolls, that means you probably don’t have enough trolls. You need to be reactive and wait for the enemy to make a mistake, then punish him. Your trolls run in 2.22, which means you can fake being aggressive and bait out the rain, run, then when its over use darkness and win. Mordor teamfighting can also be the most micro intensive army to play, as you have to keep WK and drummer in range, micro the eye, use land, and send your trolls pretty much all at the same time. There are also advanced tactics where you fake attack with WK to make the enemy aim at him, while the trolls run in. This is risky and more of a desperate last stand kind of tactic. This army requires a lot of experience so don’t feel bad if you feel like you throw the game a lot. You need to throw dozens of games before you gain that “I can go in” intuition and learn the limits of trolls. You can also say fuck it and click darkness and go in, sometimes that works
. Speaking of darkness, do not be afraid to take devastation if you are behind. Another late game tip is to buy rank 2 on your trolls, obviously only if you are rich.
Mordor Isen
This mu can be kinda annoying since you are constantly being attacked at both bases and need to walk back and forth to defend. You have the strongest LD in the game, but that means nobody will fight you fairly. Expect catas, running away, and even stoneworker. At one point, you will have rain and darkness and nothing can stop your LD. Hopefully I can help you get there. Your early game will always suck and appear hopeless just camp and have patience.
Early Game
Both of you share the 2 mills, which means this is Mordor at its most vulnerable. If you are the one being targeted, expect to have very late trolls. The good news is that sometimes they can only target one of you, and the other can carry. Isen is the carry of this mu and can go for wargs sometimes and keep them busy.
Follow the general rules (vs fod attack mills, vs fol defend) and sometimes Isen can even chant your orcs to defend (for example there is an isen mirror in the bottom) and they are surprisingly strong with eye. Chanted peasants will get instantly killed and suddenly things are looking ok! Creep fast as usual and try to get trolls ASAP.
Mid Game
Mill splitting is very important in this mu. Some people give Mordor 3 mills at start until he gets cage, then Isen takes 3 mills the rest of the game. You won’t get WK out for a long time, but Isen need lots of money to pump out 5-6 combos lurtz and Saruman. 2-2 split is fine at start, just consider giving Isen 3 after your cage is starting to cook trolls.
Make extra drummers and have 1-2 in each base. If you guys are ahead, that mean isen is ‘ready’ (3 combos with upgrades) by the time your 2nd drummer is out. You can go for a gigachad attack at the enemy base and try to win fast. If this fails, you probably lose the game. The safe strat is to have Isen put 2-3 combos in each castle and you camp with your drummers until you are strong enough to push out.
Late game
Things get pretty bad when the enemy has rain. Your greatest strength is gone and you will lose many trolls and combos. Just try to run and survive, if you don’t die to the first rain you can come back with your own darkness+rain and win. A lot of times Mordor isen gets rain first anyways but the enemy will just run to middle or abuse you with land. Don’t chase them down or get tilted and stay patient. When catas come, things get even worse and you will need to use rain and send trolls/nazguls to kill them.
Mordor Mordor
This is a fun double where you have a lot of options available. One of you can start double pit, one of you goes trolls the other middle, etc. Trick to winning is to keep constant pressure on the enemy side so they never even think of pushing your side due to the constant orcs on their farms.
Early game
Double pit start – Do not buy Gollum, send 1 orc to buy the back mill and the other forward, leaving the front mill empty. By the time they get to your mill, 2 orcs are out from the pit and you can defend with eye or land.
Palace start – Risky and should only be used by experienced players since you have to play very well with your 2 starter orcs, you cannot lose them before the harad is out.
Even if both mordors start normal with 1 pit, you can both go different strategies. One should always go for trolls and the other can go middle and wk.
Mid/Late game
If you played correctly you can secure every creep on anorien and have their first horses dealing with orcs on their side. Vs double fol you can even both go trolls and just make 20 of them before attacking. There’s really not much to say about this mu besides to throw the entire kitchen sink at them with trolls, catas, mumas, and dragons.
