BFME 1 Multiplayer Delay Fix Is Now Live

A new multiplayer delay fix is now live for BFME 1 on Arena.

If you have played BFME 1 online for a while, you probably know the feeling. Sometimes the player who is not hosting feels slower. Commands react later than expected, and on a bad connection the game can occasionally freeze for a few seconds before suddenly catching up.

A lot of players assumed this was simply caused by their internet connection. Part of it was actually caused by the way BFME 1 handles multiplayer commands.

We have now changed how those commands are handled. The goal is simple: make multiplayer feel more responsive for both players and reduce the freezes that can happen when information is briefly lost between them.

BFME 2 and RotWK have had a community delay fix for years. BFME 1 works differently, so that same solution could never simply be copied across.

Research from the Open-BFME project helped us understand the problem and find another approach.

The fix only applies to BFME 1 when the game is launched through Arena. It does not affect BFME 2 or RotWK, and it is not active when using the normal Play button in the launcher.

There is nothing you need to install. Arena updates itself automatically.

This is also the first real live test with a large number of players, locations and different connections. We do not yet know how it will behave in every situation.

Please play some matches and let us know in Discord or through the feedback form in settings if things feel better, the same, or worse. If something does not work as expected, we want to hear about it.
